About Us

On November 24, 1940 Bay City VFW Post Number 2438 mustered in with 15 Charter Members at the Mainland Post 3216 in Texas City by Department of Texas Quartermaster Walter J. Gates. Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438 was assigned to District 16 which includes Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston, Fort Bend, Wharton and Colorado counties. In 1947 Mr. Herbert H. Parker, whose son Captain Philip H. Parker USAAF had been killed in action in China in 1945, gave the post permission to locate the post home on his property if the members would change the name of the post to honor his son. On the eve of its 60th anniversary, a fire broke out and destroyed at least 95 percent of the building. Badly hurt by our loss, the members immediately began developing plans to build a new Post Home on the same site. In 2002 it was determined that the post was in need of financial assistance if it was going to continue to meet its goals for the veterans and people of Matagorda County, as well as, meet its financial obligations. All the post members stuck together to make it through the hard times and with great fanfare on November 24, 2012, coinciding with the 72nd anniversary of the post, a beautiful historical marker was dedicated in the flag court at the front of the building. Today, the post has over 300 members, and the Post Commander is Willis S. Greer, Jr. The Auxiliary has over 200 members and the President is Marilyn Adkins.

ATTENTION ALL POST MEMBERS:
We are in need of your help during our Bingo sessions. We have been spread very thin with member support and have been begging for help from the Eagles Hall just to run Bingo. Please, if you have a couple of hours on Friday or Sunday night, we ask for your assistance to help keep Bingo afloat for the community.
